Choosing the right bathroom adaptation can feel overwhelming, especially when you're dealing with mobility issues, a health condition, or trying to help a parent or loved one stay safe at home.
At Assured Bathing, we believe you should be able to make decisions with confidence. We've created this advice hub to answer the questions we're asked every week during home visits across Gloucestershire, the Cotswolds, Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and surrounding areas.
Whether you're considering a walk-in shower, a wet room or a walk-in bath, you'll find straightforward, honest information here.
Common Questions We Answer……..
How much does a walk-in shower cost?
Most walk-in shower installations cost between £6,000 and £9,000+, depending on the size of the bathroom, the type of flooring, wall finishes, plumbing work, and accessibility features required.
How much does a wet room cost?
A professionally installed wet room typically costs £8,000 to £15,000+. The final price depends on drainage, waterproofing, flooring, wall covering and whether structural changes are needed.
How long will it take to do the work?
It really depends on what work is being carried out. As a full service company we can carry out small jobs that only take a day to larger projects that can take several weeks.
I only have one WC. Can I use it whilst the work is being carried out?
Yes you can. Our team are used to working with clients who only have the use of 1 WC. The team will make sure that the WC is plumbed in when required and will vacate the space whenever it is needed. If this is not practical then we can provide a commode for use for the duration of the work. We will also make sure there is a WC plumbed in at all times over night.
Note: having to vacate the bathroom regularly for the clients convenience can increase the time it takes to complete the work.
Can you fix existing plumbing problems whilst you are working on my bathroom?
We are more than happy to repair any pre-existing plumbing issues. If we have prior information about what work is needed we can provide a cost to make the repairs.
Note: This can have an effect on the time scale of the work.
What about any costs that were unforeseen when the survey was carried out?
Nobody likes a surprise cost! We will make every effort to predict what work needs to be carried out and itemise it on your quotation. If there is a potential for unforeseen work to be completed we will explain this to you up front before the work starts and explain the costs involved if needed.
What if I decide to cancel the work?
Once the deposit has been paid we will give you a 14 day cooling off period to decide whether or not you wish to continue with the work. Once this cooling off period is complete we will go ahead and start to order the materials required to start on site. You can choose to waive this cooling off period and allow work to start sooner if you wish.
Note: the 14 day cooling off period has the potential to push back the start date of you work.
What workmanship guarantees are there?
We offer a 12 month workmanship guarantee on all work carried out by us. If there are any issues with our work during these 12 months then we will come back to site to repair or replace.
Are there any product warranties?
We like to use good quality products that last the test of time. All of our suppliers have different product warranties that will be explained upon quotation. (Usually from 12 months to 10 years depending on the manufacturer)
What if I have a problem with my new bathroom out of hours?
Unfortunately we do not offer a 24hr call out service at this time. If you have an urgent problem with you bathroom that needs immediate attention and is as a result of our workmanship then please call your nearest 24hr plumber to see if they can diagnose and repair the problem. If the problem is as a result of our work then we will cover the fee for the emergency plumber.
Do I have to pay Vat on the work being carried out?
If you are having the alterations to make the bathroom more accessible and you have a long term medical condition then you will not pay VAT (currently at 20%). If you are unsure whether or not you or a loved one qualifies for VAT relief then do get in touch with us for clarification or go to https://www.gov.uk/guidance/vat-relief-on-certain-building-work-if-you-have-a-disability to find out more.
What happens with all the mess that is created?
You do not have to worry about this. Our service includes protecting all surfaces and walk through areas as well as removing all rubbish from site, leaving the site as clean as we found it.
Can I have a walk-in shower downstairs? I need a new shower but I’m not sure if my water pressure is good enough? I would like a bath and a shower but I am not sure if they will fit?
All technical questions can be answered upon survey of the bathroom space. There are many factors that can effect the installation of a new shower, bath etc, all of which will be discussed with you in detail.
Some companies say than can fit a shower in a day. Is this possible?
This really depends on what is being fitted, but from our experience this is not usually the case. Making alterations to a bathroom needs to be done with care and attention to avoid any sub- standard workmanship.
Can I have drawings created to give to another builder?
All our 3D images and plans are created under the condition they are not passed to a 3rd party. If the client wishes to do so then the drawings are chargeable at £250.00 + VAT.
